Reflex orders cancelled

Saturday, April 12th, 2008 by Steven

Readers, I received this on Feb 2 from bodielobus:

Dear BuyReflex.com Pre-Order Purchasers,

A year has gone by since we launched our controller’s pre-order website, BuyReflex.com, and it comes with great displeasure that we are informing you that we have been unable to fulfill your order in the timeframe allowed.

Even though we are very close to finalizing a manufacturing and distribution deal for a full-USB version of the controller, we just couldn’t pull it off in time. As promised, we will begin refunding your orders in batches, starting immediately.

Please allow up to 4 weeks for your refund to appear in your Google Checkout Account.

So it appears that the future of this controller may in fact be stalled or even dead. I have had contact with the developers in the past, but nothing since this announcment. If I hear anything new I’ll post it here right away.

I really like the idea of “just” replacing the right analog stick with a trackball. And keep the other layout true to the original gamepad.

I saw that Splitfish hade a prototyp of a trackball gampad as well (GlideFX), but with a completely different layout, sadly. I’t would be nice if bodielobus gamepad gets in production, but I highly doubt that it will.

Looks like the Bodielobus could possibly be getting its controller released after all.

Says on there due out July ’08, fingers crossed the controller makes it!

Well, that sucks. Try-try again, eh? I would’ve put the R3 button (what was the click in stick on the stock Dual Shock) on the right top side, just under R1 and R2. As the placement of R3 on your design makes it rather hard to press. This way you could swivel the trackball and shoot at the same time.

  4. NFH Says:

As a follow up point to Kitsune, having R3 be easily accessible is important because games are designed with that in mind, Halo for instance.

The White Fusion thing was only going to work properly with the PS2 because UT supported mouse input, hence the dual cord ends. Games handle absolute/relative analog inputs rather separately, you’d have to turn the sensitivity way up and even then you’d possibly lose all fine control by flat-out replacing the right analog stick with a trackball.

The best idea so far, I think, would be simply getting something like this going for PC. And if you’re going to do that, why just put R3 in-between R1 and R2, instead put one of those Logitech scroll wheels there, so it would be like the impossible lovechild of a Dual Shock and a Trackman Marble Wheel.

wow. you guys gave up pretty easily didn’t you?
I thought up the idea for a console style controller with a trackball on the right about a year ago. I’m mostly a console gamer but a friend got me into counterstrike. Needless to say I was owned nightly. Keyboards are not made for gaming not even gaming keydoards. I don’t care what anyone says. Everyone I told thought it was brilliant. I thought i was the first to think of it until i researched it a few weeks ago and found the paradox. As far as I know its the only true console trackball controller. I didn’t care. I wanted to own it. But then i found this site and my hope was cruched. Since then I’ve been to every game shop I know of and noone has ever heard of it. But they all agree that its an awsome idea. Did you guys even try? I have never seen an ad or buzz about the controller. Neither has any of my hardcore gaming buddies. this is the future. this eliminates a block between pc and console gamers. Console/ pc ports could play in the same rooms online on a level playing field. A console interface could truly be like a computer. Who wouldn’t think thats cool. I know its been like a year since last post or news but if anyone’s listening I want my trackball controller. If you’re short on preorders you have me and my friends now. If you think there’s not a market you’re looking in the wrong place.
